Invasive Species Replacement
276 Holly Point Rd., Centerville
The property borders Bearse Pond and the area proposed for improvement lies
within the 50’ buffer zone.
Much of the vegetation bordering the pond is quality native material but the
portions bordering the lawn are dominated by several invasive species:
Bittersweet, Bush Honeysuckle, Barberry, and Wisteria. The homeowners would
like to replace those species with native species and, additionally, trim two maple
limbs to improve their view of the pond.
We propose to manually pull the shrubs accessible from the lawn and treat any
entwined vines or shrubs with herbicide via the “cut & swipe” method. All debris
will be disposed off-site. Following removal, native species would be planted in
their place according to the included plan dated 7/21/2022. A one-time
application of 2-3” of shredded pine bark mulch will be applied to facilitate
establishment and prevent erosion. Since this project should be completed in 1 or
2 days, no erosion control is necessary. Work is to be completed by April 15 th,
2023.
This work should improve the local ecosystem by replacing exotic invasive species
with native species.
