Public Comment from Rep. Diggs in support August 31, 2022 Barnstable Zoning Board of Appeals 367 Main Street Hyannis, MA 02601 Planning and Development, 3rd Floor To Whom it May Concern: I am writing to express my support in David and Diane Munsell building a house on their lot located at 3077 Main St reet in Barnstable Village. Please reference appeals #2022-043 and #2022-044. Massachusetts, and Cape Cod especially, is experiencing a housing crisis. As a member of the Massachusetts General Court ’s Joint Committee on Housing, I am greatly informed about this issue, and I understand that the best way for us to solve this crisis is to build our way out of it . It is imperative that we develop more residential housing in the region and the Commonwealth, and that starts with the construction of new homes like the one The Munsells seek to build . The dearth of housing bottlenecks our state and our communities, holding us back from achieving our full potential. I urge you to process as quickly as possible development projects like The Munsell’s home and other new residential construction to help add ress this significant problem. The Munsells have been positive contributors to our village since they originally moved here in 2012. They have served their community on boards and have volunteered to both work and fund community events. As active members in the village, I trust that their new home will be built in good taste and well maintained. In fact, I know that they enjoy the charming historic looks of homes along Massachusetts Route 6A in Barnstable and wish for their new house to comport with the aesthetic. With the addition of another home in the village, we also have the opportunity to welcome another family into our community. Since the Munsells will be downsizing, their current home at 3074 Main St reet will be perfect for a growing family. New families contribute to the enrichment and re-enlivening of our community, so I hope you will exercise every effort to greenlight this new development and others like it . Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions or wish to discuss further, please reach out to me at my office. Sincerely, Kip A. Diggs
